SCNAC utilizes pedometer based walking programs both in the school and community settings to emphasize the importance of physical activity. Participants receive pedometers and step logs to record the amount of steps taken each day. They are able to evaluate the amount of daily physical activity, set personal goals, and ultimately reach or exceed the goal of 10,000 - 12,000 steps per day (approx. 5 miles) as recommended by current research.
Throughout the program, participants are encouraged to engage in a variety of physical activities which they could sustain over a life time. Pedometer based walking programs are designed to give participants the tools and motivation to stay active and fit.
